CHANEL BRINGS THE RUNWAY TO BARANGAROO
Neighbourhood — 6 November 2026
Chanel’s Sydney show brought Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Kylie Minogue to The Cutaway—and put Barangaroo’s cultural life in focus.

On 5 November 2026, the runway arrived beneath Barangaroo Reserve. Chanel presented its Cruise 2026/27 collection at The Cutaway, bringing an international fashion spectacle to Sydney’s waterfront. Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Kylie Minogue were among the guests. Beyond the front row, there was another reason to look closely: a sandstone cultural space in a neighbourhood where the harbour and the city are never far apart.
The Sydney presentation was a restaging of Matthieu Blazy’s first Cruise collection for Chanel, originally unveiled in Biarritz on 28 April. The French coastal town is where Gabrielle Chanel established her first couture house. Designed around movement and the meeting of indoor and outdoor life, the collection found a natural second setting in Sydney. This was not a collection designed exclusively for Australia; it was the same creative proposition seen through a different city’s light, coastline and architecture.
The Cutaway gave that exchange a distinctive frame. Set beneath Barangaroo Reserve on Gadigal Country, the venue retains a towering sandstone wall as the centrepiece of its event hall. It reopened in August 2026 and accommodates exhibitions, performances and gatherings as well as fashion shows. For Chanel’s presentation, reporting described an Art Deco-inspired setting organised into five interconnected rooms, with the local sandstone part of the visual conversation. The architecture was not simply background. It helped make the Sydney edition its own event.
There is a wider neighbourhood story here. Barangaroo is often discussed through its office towers and waterfront dining, but its appeal also lies in the movement between them. The morning walk, a coffee before work, an exhibition, an evening by the water: these are the encounters that give a precinct a life beyond its skyline. A major fashion house arriving with an international audience puts that everyday setting in sharper focus. It does not invent the neighbourhood’s character; it gives more people a reason to notice it.
For a Sydney specialty coffee brand, that is the interesting connection. Fashion and cafés occupy very different scales, yet both shape how a city feels at street level. Materials, service, a room’s proportions and the small rituals people return to all matter. The strongest hospitality spaces are not merely places to buy something. They become part of how people move through a neighbourhood, meet someone or take a moment between appointments.
Chambers has been roasting in Sydney since 2014. Our planned Barangaroo location is part of that same interest in the city’s daily rhythm. It remains listed as coming soon, with an opening date to be announced; this story is neighbourhood coverage, not an opening announcement. Chambers was not a partner or host of the Chanel show, and no celebrity visit to Chambers is being claimed.
The runway is over. Barangaroo’s waterfront, cultural spaces and everyday encounters remain. That is the lasting appeal of this Sydney moment: international fashion drawing attention to a place whose identity continues long after the final look leaves the room.
